For those of you hoping this is a recipe that includes alcohol – you can just move on.  This is traditional non-alcoholic egg nog that is just that, egg nog.  No brandy, rum, sherry, whiskey or bourbon included.

For me, egg nog signals Christmas eve and the kind that comes in a carton is sacrilegious and certainly will NOT cut it for the occasion.
Enjoy warm – that is the way it is the best!

Yule Egg Nog

Serves 6

1/3 cup sugar               2 egg yolks                   ¼ tsp. Salt

4 Cups milk                   2 egg whites                 3 Tablespoons sugar

1 tsp. Vanilla

½ cup heavy cream whipped (for topping)

Beat sugar into egg yolks.  Add salt and milk.  Cook over medium heat, stirring until mixture coats spoon.  Remove from heat.  Beat egg whites until foamy, add 3 T sugar.  Beat to soft peak and add to custard.  Drink warm or chill for 3-4 hours.  Pour into punch bowl and dot with whipped cream.  Sprinkle nutmeg on top.

(You can also make it with more eggs if you like, my mom has done 4 eggs with 5 cups milk.)
